Lag is definitely the last thing you want when playing a game on computer . However, if Discord is using up a large portion of CPU in the background, that's exactly what's going to happen. You can overcome this by enabling hardware acceleration in the app .
Hardware acceleration won't solve all the problems caused by Discord, of course. In fact, if your graphics card (or computer, in general) is straining under the pressure of modern games, hardware acceleration can cause even more problems, leaving you with no choice but to disable it.
Whether you want to enable or disable hardware acceleration in Discord, the process is easy. It can only be done in the Discord desktop on Windows or Mac, however, hardware acceleration is not available in the Discord mobile apps or web clients.
To get started, open the Discord app on your computer and log in. Once you're logged in, click the settings gear icon that appears next to your username in the bottom left corner.
In the Discord Settings menu , select the “ Appearance ” option in the menu on the left. You can find it in the “ App Settings ” category.
In the “ Appearance ” menu , you can change various appearance settings, such as Discord’s theme, message layout, and accessibility options.
In the “Advanced” section, click the slider next to “Hardware acceleration” to turn it on or off. When the slider appears green with a tick, the setting is active and hardware acceleration is enabled.
To disable it, make sure to move the slider to the off position, which appears in gray and with an “X” symbol.
Changing the setting to enable or disable hardware acceleration will require a restart of the Discord client. In the “Change hardware acceleration” pop-up window, click “OK” to confirm and restart the client. Once restarted, the Discord hardware acceleration setting you selected will become active. You can enable or disable the setting whenever you want by repeating the steps above.
