Google will retire its Google Drive software, a client used to sync files between local devices and Google's cloud, on March 12, 2018.
Users of the service currently running the Google Drive software may be able to continue to do so, but the software will no longer be supported as of December 11, 2017, and will be completely shut down on March 12, 2018.
Termination is a term that the company does not specify exactly what it means, so we cannot know if Google will completely remove the ability to communicate with its cloud storage from the client.
The Google Drive app will start showing messages to users starting in October that it is about to be retired.
The company is thus trying to get users of the service to use newer programs, which it revealed some time ago.
Regular users of the service are therefore invited to use Google Backup and Sync, a new program that combines the functions of Google Drive and Google Photos. It is available for Windows and Mac operating systems and supports the synchronization of any folder and files you have selected with Google's cloud storage.
