Let's move on to some fresh news: a new phone from Kodak is coming!
Digital photography and smartphones have certainly been killed by the once-mighty imaging company. Last year at CES we first saw a K0dak phone, the IM5, a mid-range Android device marketed as a handy photography device. Now Bullitt has unveiled the new Kodak Ektra, a vintage-looking device with a super-fast camera based on the eponymous model Kodak released in 1941.
Like the IM5, the 5-inch, 1080p Ektra was designed by Bullitt, a British company that makes rugged phones under the Cat brand and will soon be doing something similar for Land Rover. The Ektra has a 21-megapixel camera with a Sony IMX230 image sensor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a MediaTek Helio X20 processor. When it comes to the Bullitt, what really matters is its brand: people know and love Kodak.
The company says that while the phone's key selling point is photography, it doesn't aim to rival the likes of the iPhone 7 or Google Pixel in image quality. The Ektra's signature image quality is evident in the visual echoes of the phone's analog cameras. The back of the phone is covered in faux leather, the sides are plastic with a metallic finish, and there's a glossy button that double-presses to launch the camera, and half-presses to focus.
The Kodak Ektra will be available in European markets in December and will be priced at 501 euros. Bullitt informs us that if there is enough interest, it will also be available in the US markets in December 2017!
