LeEco debuts an 85-inch TV!

Now LeEco launches televisions under its name and bets on high-end technology with aggressive pricing. The first four will be sold on the company's site, LeMall, in November.

Most notably, the 85-inch TV called the uMax85 costs $5,000. This is a huge TV that costs a lot of money, but expect similar-sized TVs from Samsung and Sony to cost about $3,000 more and lack the kind of high-end picture enhancements used in the LeEco.

The uMax85 will have a full range of local dimming (FALD) backlighting with 448 zones, more than any TV we have encountered, including the Vizio line and the Hisense H10 (Sony Z9D may have more, but Sony doesn't talk). FALD offers superior picture quality compared to other LCD technologies. LeEco supports 90 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, which is respectable but does not provide as good picture quality as OLED or LCD screens that use quantum dots.

Like LG and Vizio TVs, the uMax85 supports both high dynamic range (HDR) standards, Dolby Vision and HDR10. In our tests we haven't found any particular advantage of one over the other, but generally it's good for a TV to support both formats.

The LeEco also has 4GB of memory, 64GB of RAM, and a quad-core processor. SmartTV system is the Google Android TV system, which means it has access to all the apps in the Android TV store.
