With all major US airlines banning the Samsung Galaxy Note7 and many global airlines following suit, fans of the company really need some good news, and luckily there is.
Samsung has released an update that brings some of the Note 7's features to the S7 and S7 Edge.
Android enthusiast Hani88 on XDA Developers has posted details about an update that adds the retired model's advanced Always-on Display (AOD) features to two other flagship phones from the company.
Some of the AOD features include notification support for Samsung Apps like Notes, customizable clocks, music information, and the ability to display photos on the lock screen.
The company also adjusted AOD for lower power; it now sucks up less than 1 percent of battery life per hour.
It's unclear whether Samsung will release the update for the S7 and S7 Edge in all regions. The company itself has not commented on the matter.
While it's no complete consolation for the Note 7's failure - notable features like GIFs and S Pen features are missing - it's better than nothing and gives these phones some cool new features.
With no new flagship models expected until early next year, new software updates that deliver new features and additional colors for the S7 and S7 Edge are the only two moves the company has right now to keep its status quo.
