Android dominates mobile phones with 81.5% share worldwide
In second place with a 14.8% share worldwide, slightly down from 2013, was the iOS software that runs on iPhones , according to Agence France-Presse. In the fourth quarter of 2014, however, iOS's share had increased to 19.7%.
There is no third strong "player" in the market, at least not yet, as Android and iOS together control about 96% of the global market. Windows Phone had a share of 2.7% last year (compared to 3.3% in 2013) and Blackberry just 0.4% (from 1.9% in 2013).
Samsung, with its new Tizen operating system that recently appeared, aspires to make its presence more noticeable this year.
According to IDC, approximately 1.3 billion mobile phone devices were sold in 2014, and of these, over a billion ran Android, while 192 million were Apple models.
