According to NVD, Apple's Mac OS X is the most vulnerable operating system for 2014 with 147 new security vulnerabilities, while Windows is for the first time ranked as more secure than other operating systems.
The second most vulnerable operating system is iOS , also from Apple . It is striking that Android is missing from the list .
In third place appears the Linux [not a specific distribution] followed by Windows Server and the remaining versions of Windows.
Suddenly, it's overturning what everyone has known for years, that Mac OS X and Linux [Unix-based operating systems] are more secure than Windows.
The table below shows the vulnerabilities reported in 2014 for operating systems, with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 coming in low at positions 7 and 8 respectively.
In total, 7038 new security vulnerabilities were registered in the NVD database in 2014 [4794 in 2013], with 80% of them reported in third-party applications, 13% in operating systems and 4% in hardware
Finally, the NVD [National Vulnerability Database] is the government agency that collects security information for US operating systems.
