Microsoft: Temporary solution for Outlook crashing when sending emails

Recently, Microsoft shared a temporary fix for a known issue that causes Outlook Desktop to crash when sending emails from Outlook.com accounts.

Microsoft

This confirms customer reports of crashing issues when using Outlook.com accounts shared on Microsoft's community website and other social networks since last Monday, November 20. According to online reports, restarting ,repairing Outlook, reinstalling the application, and creating a new Outlook profile for the affected email account do not resolve the issue.

“I have tried everything (safe mode, new profile, pst repair, even system restore to restore a previous installation) to no avail,” said one of the affected users.

These issues only affect Outlook for Microsoft 365 users and those in Current Channel (Preview) using Outlook version 17029.20028.

“ The issue has been fixed in future builds 17029.20052+ but this build has not yet been released ,” Microsoft says

Although a limited number of customers have reported that they were able to work around this known issue by reinstalling Office, Microsoft recommends rolling back to a previous version.

To do this, type “ Command Prompt ” in the Windows search box , right-click “Command Prompt” and click “ Run as administrator .” Then, paste the following commands into the Command window and press Enter after each one:

cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun

officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.16924.20124

Redmond also began rolling out fixes last week for some customers affected by another known Microsoft 365 issue that causes errors with the message 'Something went wrong [1001]', rendering Office desktop applications inaccessible for many affected users.

Outlook

Persistent connection issues are affecting customers using Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint for Microsoft 365, Microsoft 365 Apps for business, and Office apps for iOS and Android, the company confirmed about a month ago.

Previously, we fixed another bug that caused significant delays for Microsoft 365 customers when saving attachments in Outlook Desktop on a shared network.

Earlier this year, Microsoft addressed several issues with Outlook, including those that blocked Microsoft 365 customers from accessing emails and calendars and caused slow startup and freezing while reloading memory.

The inability to send emails through Outlook can significantly impact users, as email is one of the primary means of communication in the modern era. Users who experience problems sending emails may not be able to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, or friends, and this can have a negative impact on their professional and personal lives.

Additionally, the inability to send email can lead to delays in completing tasks and missed opportunities. Users who rely on email to complete tasks, such as sending quotes or requesting information, may find themselves unable to complete their tasks on time. This can have negative consequences for their business or personal performance.

Additionally, the inability to send email can cause anxiety and loss of trust from recipients. When users experience problems sending email, recipients may worry about their credibility or doubt the validity of the information they receive. This can have a negative impact on the relationships between users and their recipients, whether they are business contacts or personal ones.
