As the company acknowledged nearly a month ago, these connection issues are affecting customers using Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint for Microsoft 365, Microsoft 365 Apps for business, and the Office apps for iOS and Android.

“When trying to sign in to Microsoft 365 Office apps, users are receiving an error message. The error states: “Something went wrong” [1001],” Microsoft explained.

Although the authentication errors in the Microsoft 365 desktop app were related to user profile management issues and security software preventing Web Account Manager (WAM) add-ons from running, the company is still investigating the login issues and analyzing logs from affected users to identify any other possible causes of the issue.

Microsoft encourages affected customers to open support requests in the M365 Admin Portal and attach Microsoft Office Authentication/Identity Diagnostic (MSOAID) logs to expedite investigation.

Recently, the company released new versions of Office for Current Channel users on November 14th to address some of the causes behind these ongoing connection issues.
