Qualcomm is ready for the next smartphone solution, called Integrated SIM or iSIM, and it can replace physical SIM cards and eSIMs.

As Android phones evolve, they are revolutionizing the way we use networks. For years, we relied on physical SIM cards to make calls and use data networks. However, with the latest advances in technology , things have changed and will change even more.
We have gradually moved towards eSIM technology , which no longer requires replacing the physical SIM card in phones , while also allowing phone manufacturers to free up space in smartphone designs. An eSIM is a digital SIM card that allows users to switch between mobile network providers without having to physically change the SIM card. This makes it easier for users to access different networks and take advantage of the plans that best suit their needs .

Now, however, Qualcomm is readying its next smartphone solution, called Integrated SIM or iSIM. This new SIM format will be more power efficient than regular SIMs and eSIMs, according to the company's claims.
The chipmaker says that the iSIM is integrated into the chipset, which means there is more room for features like better speakers, etc. Qualcomm and Thales are promoting the iSIM technology by showcasing its use case in a modified version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen chipset.

At 100 times smaller than the nano-SIM we typically use in our phones today, iSIM is expected to be the next choice for network connectivity on mobile devices. Experts predict that more than 300 million phones with iSIM will be sold by 2030!
The chipmaker says that iSIM will “complement” existing SIM and eSIM technology . So it looks like your phone will be able to support iSIM without sacrificing the availability of either SIM or eSIM cards
Qualcomm announced iSIM technology at MWC 2023 in Barcelona.

Apple has already brought about the change with the US iPhone 14 that comes without a regular SIM slot. It is quite interesting that the market is evolving so fast while eSIM has not even been adopted as a primary SIM format yet. People in countries like India are facing issues with eSIM connections being limited to select carriers. It remains to be seen how iSIM will be integrated into the market with the help of Qualcomm offering the technology through its flagship chipset. It is not clear when we will see the first smartphones with iSIM capability, but since it is used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen chipset, it will probably appear relatively soon. This chip is already used in the best Android. If this feature becomes mainstream, then the chip manufacturer should bring it to mid-range phones as well.
