In a shocking move, The Crown Estate – the organisation responsible for managing the properties of King Charles’s extensive portfolio – is suing Twitter for failing to pay rent on 20 Air Street in London. This serves as the headquarters for all of Twitter’s UK and proves that the company is failing to meet its obligations.

Before the lawsuit was filed regarding the unpaid rent, CNN reported that a Crown Estate representative had attempted to contact Twitter about it.

On Friday, Twitter was taken to court by the landlord of its San Francisco offices for not paying rent in December and January. A copy of the lawsuit was published by The San Francisco Chronicle.

Last month, the company defaulted on a $3.36 million rent bill, prompting SRI Nine Market Square LLC — the landlord — to draw on Twitter’s credit line to pay it back. Twitter then defaulted on the next month’s expected $3.42 million in rent, and although the landlord tried to withdraw it from a credit line, it only got about $265,000, leaving the account in question with just a dollar in balance.

The landlord claims that Twitter violated their contractual agreement by failing to pay rent, as well as failing to increase its credit line from $10 million in accordance with the terms of the change of ownership set forth in the lease agreement.

As a wealthy businessman, Elon Musk has been taking drastic measures to cut costs at his organization. As Twitter struggled to raise capital, it auctioned off expensive furniture and other luxury items from its San Francisco. From espresso machines to elegant décor, these valuable items were quickly snapped up during the bidding process.
