Apple today released macOS Catalina Golden Master for developers, three days after releasing the macOS Catalina beta.
The Golden Master version of macOS Catalina is the final version of the update that will soon be available to the general public. The new macOS Catalina software can be downloaded using Software Update in System Preferences, after installing the appropriate profile from the Developer Center.
macOS Catalina eliminates the iTunes, splitting it into Music, Podcasts , and TV apps. The three new apps offer similar functionality to iTunes, but are separated by category. iOSis still available on the Mac, but now done through the Finder instead of iTunes.
With a new Sidecar feature, you can turn iPad into a second display for your Mac with the touch of a button. Apple Pencil also works with Sidecar, so you can turn iPad into a drawing tablet for apps like Photoshop and Illustrator.
Apple Watch can be used to approve security notifications for passwords and other information in macOS Catalina. Additionally, Macs with the T2 chip now support Activation Lock, making them more secure. There's also a new Find my Mac app, which lets you track your devices even when they're offline or, in the case of laptops, when they're turned off.
Another feature available on Mac and iOS devices is Screen Time, as well as Project Catalyst, a new Apple initiative that will allow developers to easily port their apps from iPad to Mac, to increase the number of apps available for Mac.
There's a new Photos interface that organizes your photos by day, month, or year. There's also a new start page for Safari, Mail has new tools for muting emails and blocking spam, and the Reminders app has been overhauled.
32-bit apps no longer work in macOS Catalina, which is something you should know before installing the beta.
Apple plans to release MacOS Catalina sometime in October.
