According to Huawei, the new HongMeng operating system that the company is preparing will be faster than iOS and macOS.
Huawei, the Chinese smartphone, recently announced the creation of its own operating system, called “HongMeng OS,” with the aim of reducing its dependence on Android.
For those who don't know, Google had suspended its activities with Huawei after the US government blacklisted it in May, citing a national security risk.
Recently, however, the US government partially lifted the ban imposed on Huawei and now it is allowed to cooperate with US companies, including Google.
The company, however, has not changed its decision to create its own operating system, so that it does not risk any future ban.
Ren Zhengfa, CEO and founder of Huawei, said that his company's HongMeng OS is more than just an Android.
The operating system could be used for connectivity across a variety of devices, including network switches, routers, data centers, smart home devices, autonomous vehicles, and more. Additionally, it can be used on laptops and desktops.
According to Ren, HongMeng OS is “likely” to be faster not only than Google’s Android but also Apple ’s macOS .
However, Ren acknowledged that HongMeng OS faces a difficult task to build a strong software ecosystem, as both Android and iOS have strong developer support. He added, however, that the company is building an app store to attract more developers.
HongMeng OS will be released in China this year and then in other markets starting early next year. It is rumored that the company's upcoming top-of-the-line flagship, the Mate 30 Pro , may use HongMeng OS.
