Huawei accuses US of cyberattacks

In a barrage of tweets, Huawei accuses the US government of resorting to a range of actions, including cyberattacks, to disrupt its business and force companies and other countries not to use the company's products.

The US used the cyberattacks “to infiltrate Huawei’s intranet and internal information,” the company said in one of its tweets. It also accused the FBI of pressuring Huawei employees to spy and collect information about the company.

Americans have been embroiled in a long-running dispute over Huawei's espionage allegations, and in May, amid escalating trade war tensions with China, President Trump declared a national emergency and banned US telecommunications companies from using equipment from foreign companies that could threaten national security.

The Commerce Department immediately placed Huawei and 70 subsidiaries on the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) Entity List to “prevent American technology from being used by foreign-owned entities in ways that potentially undermine national security or foreign policy interests,” Wilbur Ross said in a statement at the time.

But last month the Commerce Department renewed a temporary license allowing U.S. companies to sell their products to Huawei, but blocked exports to 45 companies affiliated with the Chinese technology company.

Huawei is lashing out on Twitter over reports claiming that China was likely behind a recently discovered malware campaign that used so-called watering-hole attacks to target iPhone for more than two years, part of an effort to target Uyghur Muslims based in the Chinese state of Xinjiang.

The campaign was actually broader than it initially seemed and attempted to infect Android and Microsoft Windows.
