Online Security: Most of us want a quick answer to the question: “How can I protect myself from online attacks?”

Even though a thorough answer is time‑consuming, anyone can make their digital life and experience safer and more private by following these two fundamental principles:
- Don't be an easy target.
- Protect what has “value”

- Keep your systems updated.
- Use anti-malware software, firewalls , and spam filters when possible.
- Use strong and unique passwords (no sharing across websites) and keep them secret.
- Do not click any link or attachment sent via email or text!
- Do not install untrusted software or visit unsafe websites.
- Do not share too much personal information and be suspicious of anything you receive from the internet.
- Use credit card details only on trusted websites.
- Monitor your online activity to detect signs of an attack (e.g., monitor the credit report, pay attention to malware notifications, etc.) and then act quickly to avoid potential impacts.
- Be prepared for a potential attack and have a response plan (e.g. back up your critical data, have a recovery plan, be ready to cancel a compromised credit card, know how to change/reset your passwords, etc.).
- Know what is valuable to you in your digital life and protect it. (For example, use multi-factor authentication on your bank accounts, don't give out your date of birth or social security/national insurance numbers, avoid exposing your children's , etc.)
Our online security requires us to always be there for it. We must stay updated and not make quick and superficial moves when we surf.
Stay safe!
