Raspberry Pi: Turn it into a Steam streaming hub via the Steam Link app

Valve Steam may have discontinued the Steam Link hardware streaming hub , but it's not giving up on the idea of streaming Steam games to all the screens in your home. By expanding on the existing functionality of the app Link, Raspberry Pi support opens up new streaming possibilities for those looking to play Steam games on something other than their computer screen.

Valve's Steam Link streaming hub was launched in 2015 alongside the Steam Machine platform. It's available on Android smartphones, Samsung , and now Raspberry Pi micro computers.

Raspberry Pi

Installing the Steam Link app on a Raspberry Pi is relatively simple. First, you need to have the Raspberry Pi and the host computer connected to the same network. Then, you need to run some commands in a terminal window (based on Valve's instructions) and the app will install. From there, you can use the Raspberry Pi to stream your Steam games to any connected display, with support for gamepads like the Steam Controller, Xbox One and 360 wired and wireless controllers, Sony, keyboards, and mice.

A wired connection is recommended for a smooth streaming experience , and you'll need to use wireless dongles for the remotes since the Pi doesn't support Bluetooth.

This feature is another small success for the Raspberry Pi. There have been some fantastic Pi projects at one time or another. The ability to steam in 1080P and 4K is another way that helps keep Valve's dream alive.
