Steam Link: Final credits for Valve's streaming device

The end is near for Steam Link, a very useful Steam device designed to transfer your computer's image using your local network to a screen far from your computer. In recent years, the company has struggled to promote its product at its original price of $ 50, and so by gradually reducing the price and adding significant discounts at intervals, the Steam Link has reached the point of being sold for $ 2.50! This is the reason why Steam is stopping production of the product. The company itself announced that the last pieces are now being sold.

But what is this device capable of doing?

The Steam Link's little black box performs a basic function. It streams your computer's display to another monitor on your local network, allowing you to play games or watch movies in your living room (or wherever else you want). The device allows users to plug in any peripheral they would plug into their computer (mouse, keyboard, headphones, and more), and use their computer just as they would if they were in front of it.

We could describe it as a long-range wireless HDMI. All you need to use it is the Steam Link itself, a good WIFI Access point with high bandwidth so that you don't lose image quality, especially when gaming, or instead, an ethernet connection, and finally the Steam application, which must be running on the computer from which the signal will be "produced".

Once set up, the Link offers an incredible experience with almost zero lag at 1080p 60fps. In fact, many of its owners have reported that it's hard to tell that the signal is coming from another device, and not generated on the Link itself.

Finally, Valve has long since brought the feature to the Android mobile app and Samsung smart TVs, so Link can now be completely replaced by the program running on these devices.
