Software updates in the Android ecosystem are a nightmare for most device manufacturers. To compete with the big guys, Huawei is taking a major step towards solving this problem. The company has promised major software updates for a wide range of devices every two months, in addition to monthly Android security updates.
The first step will come next month, when Huawei will bring Face Unlock to a wider range of phones, including the Huawei P10, P20, P20 Pro and more affordable models like the Mate9, Mate10 and Mate10 Pro, as well as the nova3e, nova 2lite and nova 2i.
In a formal announcement, Huawei explains that it is committed to offering this feature on many of its devices, despite the fact that face unlock is typically offered on flagships.
“Huawei is committed to improving the experiences of its new and existing customers. We hope that our customers will continue to be satisfied with using Huawei smartphones. Face Unlock is a feature that has until now been limited to premium smartphones.
Huawei is proud to bring this feature to a wider, more affordable range of smartphones. We are a leading pioneer in smartphone technology and will continue to provide our users with products that complement their needs and lifestyles – without having to pay a huge price tag. This software update ensures that the majority of our phones launched in the last two years, beyond the 2018 smartphone releases, have Face Unlock capabilities.”
Delivering updates every two months is a challenge that even Samsung hasn't been able to overcome before. It's a well-known fact that Samsung has a problem with updates, as new Android versions and feature improvements for its devices are usually offered more slowly than in the case of other brands.
