Robot Odyssey is an archive educational game from 1984, which requires you to know the basics of programming to play.

It was a source of inspiration for programmers of its time and we could say that it also pushed the next generation to get involved in programming in general. You can either “remember the old days” or test your programming knowledge, from your home computer and through your browser by visiting the website robotodyssey.online.
The game seems simple enough: you have to escape Robotopolis with the help of three robots, which you will need to program by placing the correct wiring, to solve the puzzle.
David Auerbach, writing for Slate, called it the most difficult computer game of all time, stating:
Let me say this: Any kid who completes this game, and if they are still a kid then … is guaranteed a career as a software engineer. And any adult who can complete this game should become a computer engineer. Robot Odyssey is the hardest "educational" game ever made. It's also a stunning technical achievement and one of the most groundbreaking games of the Apple IIe era.
Sound like a challenge? You just have to try it.
