Nokia's comeback to the mobile phone market – It had sold its mobile device design division to Microsoft for $7.2 billion
Nokia's return to the mobile phone market was announced in recent days by the company's CEO Rajiv Suri, reports Reuters news agency. Nokia had sold its mobile device design division to Microsoft for $7.2 billion.
Suri, giving an interview to the German magazine Manager Magazin, said that the company intends to make a strong return to the world of mobile phones.
"Microsoft makes phones," Suri said during the interview. "We'll just design them and then make the brand name available for licensing," he added, suggesting the company is already looking for a suitable partner.
Asked if there was a potential bidder, Suri replied: "Anyone who can improve the business in the long term is a good buyer.".
Nokia announced in April that it planned to spend $17.8 billion to acquire Alcatel-Lucent, in an effort to further strengthen its successful network equipment business.
