When two tech giants clash over patents, the loser pays for the use of technology that belonged to the winner. Typically, regardless of who wins or loses, end users are not affected in the slightest, at least not in the long run. Of course, sometimes products are no longer available on the market until the losing company complies with the court's decision, but these situations tend to be fixed fairly quickly. This was the case with Amazon and Nokia.

One of the latest losers in a rather large patent war is Amazon. The American tech giant is facing a ban in Germany after a court ruled that Amazon infringed on a patent owned by Nokia.
A German court has ruled that Amazon can no longer provide video streaming services in the country until it reaches an agreement with Nokia. For each violation, the US tech giant will be forced to pay a fine of 250,000 euros ($260,000).

On the positive side, Amazon said that its streaming video services in Germany will not be affected, despite the company being found to be infringing on a video streaming technology patent owned by Nokia. According to Amazon, "there is no risk to customers of losing access to Prime Video."
As expected, Amazon said Prime Video service will comply with the German court's ruling and is "currently considering next steps." On the other hand, Nokia is happy that the court ruled in its favor and that its patent covers streaming services like Amazon Prime Video "which are now subject to injunctions in Germany."
