Spotify today announced that it is expanding Prompted Playlist , its AI-powered playlist creation feature, to include podcasts . The move aims to enhance the user experience by enabling them to discover new content based on their personal preferences and interests, while also making it easier for creators to reach a larger audience.

The Prompted Playlist feature launched as an experiment in New Zealand in late 2025, initially focusing on music, and expanded to new markets this year, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and Sweden. Now, the beta version allows premium users in all of these regions to create personalized playlists for English-language, using simple prompts like: “Create a True Crime podcast playlist with series I may have missed, full of twists.”

Personalized discovery with artificial intelligence
The new feature allows users to set how often their playlists are updated, with options ranging from daily and weekly to static lists that never refresh. Each episode added is accompanied by a short note explaining why it was selected for that user, providing a more transparent and understandable experience.
Lizzy Hale, Spotify’s Global Head of Podcasts, said: “Podcast lovers are always looking for their next great listen. AI-powered playlists make discovery effortless and personal, while opening up new possibilities for creators to reach audiences and showcase their content.” According to the company, more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time every week on the platform, and the new feature aims to increase that number.

Ability to easily adapt and inspire
Users can see suggested Prompted Playlists on their home screen. These playlists can be easily modified by changing the prompt, allowing for personalization based on each listener’s preferences. In this way, Spotify is creating an environment where artificial intelligence works with the user for a richer podcast experience.

The platform has made other changes this year to strengthen the podcast community, lowering the criteria for creators who want to monetize video podcasts. Under the new criteria, creators need to have three published podcasts, 2,000 hours of listening in the previous 30 days, and at least 1,000 engaged listeners.
Perspectives for creators and users
The addition of podcasts to Prompted Playlists highlights Spotify’s strategy to drive content discovery and user engagement. For creators, each new playlist that appears to users is an opportunity to reach listeners who might not otherwise have discovered their content.
During the announcement of the fourth quarter of 2025 results, co-CEO Alex Norström revealed that there are now over 530,000 video podcasts on the platform, a number that is expected to grow thanks to tools like Prompted Playlists. Artificial intelligence takes on a curatorial role, helping users discover content that matches their interests, while supporting the creativity of producers.

The importance of artificial intelligence in the listening experience
With AI taking over content curation and recommendation, users can effortlessly explore new podcast titles and series, and creators gain greater visibility and engagement. The integration of AI shows how technology can change the traditional listening experience, making it more personalized, dynamic, and tailored to each user’s needs.
