AirPods hearing aid feature comes to the UK

Apple users in the UK will soon be able to fully utilize the AirPods Pro 2′s features and use the hearing aid feature. Users in the US have been taking advantage of this feature for some time, but it was limited overseas.

AirPods hearing aid function

The Telegraph reports that Apple plans to allow the AirPods Pro 2 to function as a hearing aid, offering a potential benefit to people with mild to moderate hearing loss. While the sleek earbuds already have a hearing test feature in the UK, they don’t yet include the ability to amplify sound. In other countries, such as the US, this feature is already available.

Apple plans to release a software update within weeks, aligned with new guidance from the Department of Health and Social Care, to introduce hearing aid functionality to AirPods.

Previously, hearing aids typically required a doctor's prescription due to complex regulations. Under the new guidelines, hearing tests provided by companies like Apple will be sufficient to enable functionality on compatible devices. Officials stress that people with hearing problems should consult a general practitioner for advice.

In our time, unfortunately, more and more people are suffering from some form of hearing loss. AirPods and their hearing aid feature are practical!

According to statistics, one in three adults in the UK experience hearing loss or tinnitus, with more than half of those aged 55 and over affected. Of those experiencing hearing loss, around 53% use hearing aids.
