At Apple 's recent event, no new AirPods Pro model was introduced , but exciting upgrades were announced for the existing AirPods Pro 2.

A new firmware update has been released, bringing a variety of new features for hearing health. This update comes just in time, ahead of the release of iOS 18.1 next week.

The update includes support for new health features, including hearing tests, hearing aids, and hearing protection. The Apple Hearing Test offers scientifically proven hearing results from home, suitable for people aged 18 and over. In addition, AirPods Pro 2 are now approved as over-the-counter headphones in the US, making it easier for people with hearing impairments to better understand conversations and sounds around them.
The sound protection feature monitors the environment and helps reduce the impact of loud sounds. However, it will only be available in the US and Canada at launch. The new update for AirPods Pro 2, build number 7B19, is available to users worldwide, but requires an upgrade to iOS 18.1 to enable the new hearing health features.
