Starfield will get a boost with an upcoming patch that will be released to Steam Beta next week. This patch will include support for Nvidia 's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology .

In a new post on X (Twitter), Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that it's hard at work on Starfield's post-launch updates. The next one will be released as a beta, available exclusively to Steam users, before being released widely to all PC players, except for Xbox Series X/S.

Bethesda has confirmed that the next update will include official support for Nvidia DLSS, in addition to HDR. The update will also include a number of other optimizations and improvements. The main feature of this update will be the addition of DLSS. Additionally, Bethesda announced that support for FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 will be added in a future update.
Despite Bethesda's initial hesitation about Starfield supporting DLSS at launch, it was revealed that AMD was the exclusive partner for Starfield. The rumors and speculation later proved true, as Starfield only supported two upgrade options: FSR 2 and FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS).
DLSS was one of the most demanding features of Starfield
DLSS quickly rose to the top of the list of must-have features for PCs. While modders rushed to add DLSS to Starfield, one of them faced backlash when it was revealed that he was offering a more advanced Starfield DLSS 3 mod, accessible only to those who contributed $5 per month to his Patreon.
Shortly after Starfield launched, Bethesda announced that it would be adding official support for DLSS, although it has yet to clarify whether it will be DLSS 2 or DLSS 3 added to Starfield. If it is DLSS 3, that would be limiting, as DLSS 3 is only available on GeForce RTX 40 -series graphics cards .

Despite the lack of official DLSS support, Starfield was a major success for Bethesda, reaching 10 million players in just three weeks, making it the biggest release in Bethesda Game Studios' history. Starfield likely contributed significantly to Microsoft's Q1 2024 earnings, as it was recently revealed that Xbox content and services revenue grew 13% over the previous quarter.
