ChatGPT – new features: Sees, hears, speaks!

Now you can use voice to communicate with ChatGPT and hear the AI chatbot respond to you normally (vocally), thanks to new features offered by OpenAI.

ChatGPT new voice capabilities

OpenAI, the creator of the popular AI chatbot, announced yesterday that it is offering new features that allow users to participate in a voice conversation with ChatGPT.

In a post on Monday, OpenAI showed how this new feature can be used to “request a bedtime story for your family or settle a conversation at the dinner table.”

The new voice capabilities from OpenAI resemble those offered by Amazon's Alexa or Apple's Siri.

Now you can ask ChatGPT to tell you a story on a specific topic. The chatbot will narrate a story out loud, in a human voice, and can also answer your questions about the story.

As Open AI says in a blog post: “ChatGPT’s new voice feature is powered by a new text-to-speech model capable of producing audio human-like.” The company added that it worked with professional voice actors to create the five different voices that can be used by the chatbot.

ChatGPT: New image-based features

OpenAI also introduced a second new feature that allows the bot to respond to images. As the post notes, you can take a photo of the contents of your fridge and ask ChatGPT to help you come up with a menu based on the ingredients you have. Additionally, the company said you can ask the chatbot to focus on a specific part of an image with the “drawing tool” in the app.

The new features will be rolling out within the next two weeks for subscribers paying for ChatGPT's Plus and Enterprise services

It’s clear that OpenAI is constantly improving ChatGPT to offer even more features. This makes sense considering the increased competition in the AI industry. Since ChatGPT was launched late last year, many major tech companies have begun to introduce their own AI products. In recent weeks, the tech giants have been scrambling to release new updates that incorporate more tools. Google last week announced a series of updates to ChatGPT competitor Bard . Also last week, Amazon said it was bringing a generative AI-powered update to its Alexa voice assistant .

What is certain is that with the new capabilities, ChatGPT becomes an even stronger competitor for other companies. These capabilities add another dimension to ChatGPT's already extensive functionality, supporting human communication with artificial intelligence through a more intimate, human-centric approach.
