According to a September 25 article by Australian cybersecurity website Cyber Security Connect , the PlayStation maker has been affected by a new ransomware group called Ransomed.vc . Although the group has only been operating since September, the post suggests it has connections to previous dark web forums and other groups. Cyber Security Connect reports that the breach allegedly revealed screenshots of Sony’s internal login page, as well as an internal PowerPoint presentation detailing the testbed, a plethora of Java files , and a set of documents that includes the entire leak, which includes 6,000 files.
“We have successfully breached all of Sony’s systems,” Ransomed.vc said. “We will not demand ransom! We will sell the data. Because Sony doesn’t want to pay. DATA IS FOR SALE. WE ARE SELLING IT.”

Within these 6,000 files, there is supposedly a collection of documentation, including “build logs” that are unknown, as well as a number of Java resources and HTML data. Many of the files are reportedly in Japanese. Although Ransomed.vc has not announced a specific price for the data, the group left contact information for Sony to contact and mentioned a “post date” of September 28, likely the day Ransomed.vc will publish the data.
Interestingly, Ransomed.vc appears to be a ransomware operator and a ransomware service provider. This means that, in addition to major breaches affecting large companies, Ransomed.vc (which, according to VGC, is of Russian and Ukrainian origin) is reportedly complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other privacy laws to report vulnerabilities in corporate systems and breaches of the law. According to Cyber Security Connect, the group is leveraging the legislation to terrorize victims .
