The fast mech action of Armored Core 6 is somewhat different from the dark-fantasy RPG that FromSoftware has promoted to players over the past decade. Nevertheless, the satisfying combat, the punishing yet fair difficulty, and the immense joy from tackling many challenges carry all the DNA that the programmer's fans have come to love.
It has already been described as one of the most difficult titles from FromSoftware to date, with many players being blocked by the boss of Armored Core 6. Players have even broken their controllers out of frustration over the steep learning curve of the game.
Nevertheless, Armored Core 6 managed to rack up 156,171 concurrent players in its first weekend alone, according to Steam. While it didn't quite surpass the massive success of Elden Ring, it did surpass every other FromSoft release on PC and took second place in the developer's long list.
Analyzing the success of Armored Core 6
Armored Core 6 surpassed the peak concurrent player count of other recent FromSoftware titles on PC, such as Sekiro (125,315) and Dark Souls 3 (129,975). It's possible that Elden Ring's success has something to do with this.
Elden Ring is currently the 6th most popular title on Steam of all time according to its own concurrent player count measurements. Recording the massive number of 953,426 players at the all‑time peak, the iconic game introduced the broader gaming community to FromSoftware's design philosophy.
Proposal: STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl delayed to Q1 2024

Armored Core 6 is the first title from the developer after Elden Ring and certainly drew great attention to the game. If the review scores are something that can be used, FromSoft has certainly proven that it is something more than a simple trick.
The dedicated community of fans of the previous Armored Core titles should also not be ignored for the success of the newer title. Even though Fires of Rubicon is the sixth numbered installment of the franchise, the series veterans had been waiting over a decade for a new Armored Core and certainly made their presence felt.
Naturally, not all fans of the franchise are satisfied with the newer Armored Core. Some longtime fans of the series accused the developer of lying about the game's similarity to the “Soulsborne” games during the release preparation, even calling it “Armored Souls”.
Still, an overwhelming number of players are pretty excited about Armored Core 6 and the game's unparalleled customization suite. Players are building and sharing their own bizarre mechs inspired by gaming icons like the Minecraft Creeper and Pepsi Man, among others.
