Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon: Gets a grim new story trailer

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon

Much has been said about Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon's mech-based gameplay, but a new trailer sheds some light on its narrative. To no one's surprise, though, this new look still includes plenty of cinematic action.

Despite the “VI” in the title, Fire of Rubicon functions as a reboot. The game takes place on the planet Rubicon, where its most sought-after resource, Coral, was the cause of a catastrophe that engulfed the planet in flames. Decades later, the now-polluted planet has been reclaimed, but the rediscovery of Coral has drawn in various factions, sparking a new war on the ravaged world. Players control mercenary C4-621, or “Raven” for short, who is thrown into this epic struggle that pits corporations, militaries, and other groups against each other. Judging by the bleak tone of the trailer, it won’t be pretty.

In the trailer, ACs known as Hounds charge into a combat zone despite the fire they receive. Laser beams cutting through heavily armored mechs and series of explosions in a cloudy sky are just the beginning of the visual splendor of this Armored Core VI story trailer. Elsewhere, a corpse lies tied to a table while an ominous narrator questions someone named Handler Walter. The narrator wants to know what happened to 617 and the others. Before we get any answers, an unseen man orders the narrator to “wake it up.”.

The scene becomes increasingly desperate as the attacking ACs are destroyed, destroying 219 and 220. Prevailing against great odds, the last surviving AC activates a self-destruct sequence. Throwing itself into the heart of the enemy compound, it destroys itself as well as its target: a mysterious device controlled by the enemy. What did Alpha Team sacrifice so much to destroy? The trailer doesn't say anything, but it does show a story that is sure to captivate.

A voice in the trailer declares that the mission is complete. The invisible man tells the body on the table, implied to be 621, that he will give it a reason to exist. Then the sensors of the AC standing above them come to life. Watching this trailer, there is going to be plenty of action, so players will need the perfect mech. The Armored Core VI story trailer is rich in hints, but the final form of that narrative is still unclear.

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon will be released on August 25th for PlayStation /Xbox consoles and PC.
