Threads: New features let podcasters promote shows and reach listeners

Meta announced Wednesday that its social network and X competitor, Threads, is rolling out new tools that will allow podcast creators to promote their shows, grow their audience and engage with existing listeners directly on the platform. The move comes at a time when X, formerly known as Twitter, has also been encouraging its creators to post videos directly to the platform, especially podcasts, to earn revenue and increase engagement.

Threads, while not yet seeking to host podcasts, aims to become a hub for publications and discussions. This strategy by Meta highlights the importance it places on fostering interaction between users and content creators, as well as building a more vibrant community around podcasts.

Initially, Threads will display a podcast profile card and banner on a creator’s profile and posts. These profile cards will provide a synopsis of the podcast, allowing users to quickly access information about the content and creators. Additionally, when creators post episode links, they will appear as clickable cards in the post, allowing users to easily listen to the episode.

This feature also allows podcast hosts to post live transcripts for listeners to read during the episode. This feature can be especially useful for listeners who are hearing impaired or who prefer to read content rather than listen to it. Additionally, creators can highlight guest speakers by displaying a relevant card, providing a more interactive experience for users.

Users have the ability to save any of these posts, making it easy to listen to the episode at a later time.

Threads will also be able to send reminders to creators when their new episode is released to post it on Threads. This feature could enhance their engagement with listeners, as creators will be able to instantly notify their audience of new releases. The social platform also provides tools that offer insights into how audiences are engaging with creators’ posts, with metrics like views over time from followers, non-followers, and everyone.

This insightful information can help creators better understand their audience and tailor their content accordingly.

Last year, Threads launched new tools to increase the conversation around podcasts, with features like better link cards and connecting their profiles to their podcasts. These improvements are designed to boost podcast visibility and make it easier for users to discover and engage with the content they care about.

Threads is now close to X in terms of users, as Meta’s social network reached 500 million active users in June. This growth in user base highlights the platform’s success in attracting new users and boosting engagement. Meta’s strategy of investing in new tools and features for content creators demonstrates its commitment to staying competitive in an ever-evolving digital world.
