A product expert from the company posted an update in a Google News Publishers Help Thread saying: “They received reports about this issue and the team is currently working on it. It is a known issue that should be gradually fixed. Thank you for your patience and understanding while the issue is being addressed”.
The problem was that starting around June 21st, some publishers saw their traffic and visibility in Google News drop significantly. The thread was first reported about a week after the issue began by a German publisher, who said his visibility in News was interrupted on June 23rd.
Since then, dozens of other publishers have reported the same problem.
Below are some traffic drop charts from the thread:

According to Will Flannigan, the SEO Editor of the Wall Street Journal, he said that “it is related to the visibility problems of Google News that started in late June. Essentially, many news publishers saw their visibility plummet. In the US, it was taken over by Yahoo's union content, boosting Yahoo's visibility in Google News”.
Will spotted this a few weeks ago, right when it started, here is his thread on Twitter about the issue back then:
Then, Google’s John Mueller confirmed the issue the night before last:
The company released an update saying it found the problem and is working on a fix, writing: “We have identified the indexing and are working on a fix. The next update will be within 24 hours.”
