The Android 14 beta has been available for a while now, but we continue to discover new features included in it. The latest in the series is an API that lets you check your battery status and see how healthy it is, similar to what Apple for iPhones in earlier versions. Recently, Mishaal Rahman spotted new APIs that provide battery health statistics. However, it appears that these are only accessible by system apps, suggesting that Google plans to add a battery health feature to the system settings of Pixel phones at some point in the future. However, it appears that third-party apps can use the privileged APIs with the help of a special permission that must be enabled via ADB. Developer @narektor took it upon himself to create a proof-of-concept app that can check the health of a phone’s battery.

However, Mishaal Rahman points out that your measurements may vary. The app displays exactly the information it receives from Google's APIs and cannot directly measure battery health. Some of the data is not taken into account because it has been confirmed to be incorrect, such as the "date of first use", which displays the date 2020-12-01 for many users, regardless of the actual date of first use. It is not clear how exactly the battery health data is collected and stored. Due to the lack of an official user interface from Google, it is possible that the APIs are not yet ready for use.

If you already have the Android 14 beta installed on your Pixel, you can try out the “Batt” app by downloading it from Gitlab. The app is helpful during the setup process and reminds you to install Shizuku before using it. Shizuku is a service that allows you to use system APIs without having to use a command line interface.
