Google Pixel smartphones enrolled in the Android 14 beta program will receive a huge bug-fixing update. The company has released Android 14 Beta 2.1 to fix several bugs found in previous betas, including an issue that prevented users from opting out of the beta program. This update comes about two weeks after the release of Beta 2 at Google I/O 2023 earlier this month.

Update your Pixel to Android 14 Beta 2.1 to opt out of the beta program
Early beta versions of new software are never stable and are often full of bugs. That was the case with Android 14 Beta 1, which was released in the second week of April and contained a lot of annoying issues. Google fixed a bunch of them with Beta 1.1 a few weeks later, and then fixed a few more with Beta 2, which was released after a two-week gap. Now, two weeks later, the company has released Beta 2.1 to further improve Android 14 and eliminate even more known bugs.
The most notable issue that Android 14 beta users are facing is the inability to exit the beta program. While they were able to leave the beta program, their Pixels wouldn’t let them complete the installation process after a forced restart. Google fixed this issue with Beta 2.1. However, users will need to install the new version first before exiting, as the fix is not compatible with the previous beta (Beta 2).

After installing (either via OTA update or by manually flashing the new firmware), Pixel users will need to reset their screen lock (PIN, pattern, or password). You can reuse the same PIN, pattern, or password again. But you’ll need to go to Settings > Security & privacy > Screen lock and reset it. Doing so will resolve the issue, allowing you to leave the beta program. You shouldn’t encounter any more issues during installation—but if you want to continue, Beta 2.1 will provide you with a more reliable experience.

According to Google's release notes, this update fixes an issue that caused the battery percentage to always show 0% regardless of the device's actual charge level. It also fixes various issues with speakers, the always-on display, Android Auto, Google Photos, Google Contacts, Google Messages, and picture-in-picture mode in the Google TV. If your Pixel is enrolled in the Android 14 beta program, keep an eye out for an OTA update. The new build number is UPB2.230407.019.
