Tinder is releasing a new update to strengthen its user verification system, introducing AI functionality and selfie videos!
Tinder is rolling out an update that introduces artificial intelligence (AI) to its Photo Verification system , which until now has allowed users of the dating app to prove to others that they are not a bot or catfisher . In the past, users would take photos of themselves, as instructed, to get verified on the app and receive a blue check. Now, Tinder is beefing up that verification process by requiring a selfie instead of a photo video . Additionally, it will soon allow users to limit their conversations to only those members who are also Photo Verified.
The company says these changes are being made to make the app more secure for its users.

This new selfie video verification feature comes at a time when it’s becoming much easier to leverage AI tools to create fake photos and faces, which could flood dating apps with the intent of deceiving users. A selfie video is more “live” and is a much stronger means of verifying that people are who they say they are.
Tinder says it is working with a third-party partner to manage the selfie video verification process.
As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, Tinder itself is introducing AI as part of its verification process update. But what exactly will this AI do? The new verification model will first require the user to complete a series of videos, which the AI will then use to check that the person in the video also matches the person in the profile photo the user wants to verify.

As the updates roll out, starting Wednesday, users aiming to get photo verified or who want to maintain existing verification will need to take a selfie video.
The existing Photo Verified system, which only required photos, will soon start showing in-app notifications to upgrade to the latest version of Photo Verification. This is the only way users keep their blue check marks on Tinder. This ensures member verification through the more robust selfie video feature.
In addition to the update to use videos instead of photos, Tinder will later introduce new features that allow users to only see other Photo Verified members in their suggestions, via their Message Settings. And it will allow members to ask their matches to verify their photo before they are allowed to send a message.
The company claims that verification photo has been shown to increase matches on the service, as users feel more confident that they are talking to a real person and not a bot.

The new Photo Verification feature will roll out today to users worldwide, while the ability to limit messages to only “Verified Members with Photo” will arrive in the “coming months,” Tinder says.
Tinder is one of the most popular dating apps. Users can choose to connect with other people if they like their profile, which includes photos , a short bio, and a list of their interests. Tinder uses a “double opt-in” system where both users must like each other before they can exchange messages.
