Qualcomm could unveil Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 two weeks before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 launch date last year
Snapdragon Summit is an annual conference where Qualcomm showcases the latest technologies it's working on, including a chipset that will power future Android flagships. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to be in premium devices in 2023, and according to the San Diego chipmaker's events page, Snapdragon Summit will take place between November 14 and 17.
Looking at Qualcomm's history, the flagship mobile SoC is usually announced on the first day of Snapdragon Summit, which means the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could be unveiled on November 14. Qualcomm's phone partners like Xiaomi are expected to attend the conference, where it may provide a preview of its flagship series launching with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In this case, these premium smartphones will likely be called the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro.

We may also get a preview of the successor to the Snapdragon 8cx 3, which is currently unnamed, but previous reports have positioned this SoC as a competitor to the M1. Qualcomm has previously said that it will leverage the Nuvia acquisition to boost future chipset performance in an effort to take on Apple's M series. As for what we know about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm will likely stick with TSMC's 4nm architecture to mass-produce the next-generation silicon.

TSMC is said to start mass production of Apple's M2 Pro and M2 Max later this year using its cutting-edge 3nm process technology, but it's doubtful that Qualcomm will take advantage of this node until at least next year. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will boast improved power efficiency and increased performance over the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.

It may also be the first SoC from Qualcomm to feature an entirely new CPU cluster, ditching the “1+3+4” core configuration and instead switching to a “1+2+2+3” configuration. Whether this change will bring any meaningful improvements or not remains to be seen.
