Microsoft is working on a new feature for the Edge browser. The new feature is called “Drop” and it makes it easier to save and share files and notes across devices that have the Microsoft Edge browser. As first reported by Neowin, the new feature appears to reside in a sidebar, like Collections, History, Math Solver (when used on the desktop) and resembles a messaging service, although in reality you can only send messages to yourself.

The idea behind Drop is to provide users with a cross-platform space to store various content. You can drag and drop any file or create a note by typing text into a message box. Once synced, items in Drop become available in Microsoft Edge on your other computers and mobile devices.
Based on what the leaked screenshots show, you can send just about anything via Drop, whether it's text or an attached file. It looks like you can use it as cloud storage , and in fact, it might just be cloud storage. In one of the screenshots, Microsoft Edge appears to be showing how much space is being used on a user's OneDrive account, which suggests that files sent via Drop to OneDrive are counted against the user 's storage plan .

Drop is currently only available to Microsoft Edge Insiders running the latest version available in the Canary channel. It also appears to be part of a controlled feature rollout, which means that even if someone is on the Canary channel, they may not see the feature yet.
Microsoft is constantly working to bring new features to the Edge browser. Most recently, the company partnered with CloudFlare to offer Secure Network Mode, a built-in VPN service that encrypts data while they browse the web. Additionally, a few days ago, Microsoft announced that it is improving the PWA experience in Edge so that web apps feel more like native apps.

If you want to try out the new Drop feature, you can try downloading the latest Canary build of Microsoft Edge and see if you are one of the lucky few who sees the feature. If the feature is available, you can enable the Drop button by going to the three-dot menu, then selecting Settings -> Appearance. The option is located below the Citations button.
