
As announced on Tuesday, Samsung has released a new secure element (SE) chip to more effectively protect its users' personal data
The new chip, called S3FV9RR, will be offered as a standalone key with software , the company said.
Common Criteria , which rates the security level of IT products from EAL0 to EAL7, with 7 being considered the most secure, rated Samsung's security chip with a Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+
As the company, the 6+ rating is the highest it has received so far for any similar item.
According to Samsung, the new chip provides protection for mobile devicessuch as smartphones and tablets during startup, storage, and when making mobile payments, among other applications.
It can also be used for electronic passports and cryptocurrency hardware wallets, as well as supporting hardware-based root and device authentication. The chip is also flexible, Samsung added, as it can operate independently of the security performance of a device's main processor.

The new chip will be available to consumers in the third quarter of the year.
A similar chip, created by the company last February for the Galaxy S20 series, received a CC EAL 5+ rating.
Samsung saw no change in its revenue in the first quarter of the year. However, it said in a statement that it expects smartphone sales and profits to decline due to the coronavirus.
