Samsung has announced the third generation of Bluetooth tracker , the Galaxy SmartTag 3, which comes with significant improvements and new features that make it one of the most advanced products in its class. The SmartTag 3 combines a smaller and lighter design with improved battery life, while offering new tracking and software features, including cross-OS support.

The SmartTag 3’s design has adopted a “squircle” shape, similar to the original SmartTag, but without a key ring opening. This means users will need to purchase one of Samsung’s protective cases to attach the tracker to keys or carabiners. Despite the lack of an opening, the new design offers significant benefits. The SmartTag 3 is 35 percent smaller and 33 percent lighter than the SmartTag 2, making it more portable and discreet. It also has an IP67 rating, meaning it is dust and water resistant, making it ideal for outdoor use.
Battery life has also been significantly improved. The SmartTag 3 is 10 percent more energy efficient, extending the life of the replaceable CR2032 battery to 550 days of normal use or 790 days in power-saving mode. This improvement is especially important for users who rely on the tracker to track valuable items or pets for long periods of time.
One of the most notable features of the SmartTag 3 is support for iOS, something that wasn't available in previous versions. While previous Galaxy SmartTags only worked with Samsung phones, the new generation opens the door to iPhone users, allowing them to share tracking information with friends, family, or even dog walkers. Samsung has reached out to confirm whether other Android phones will be supported, which could further expand the product's user base.

New alerts can be set to trigger when a SmartTag 3 moves in or out of a designated area, giving users more flexibility and control. Motion detection alerts can be triggered for smaller movements, while location history helps users track a tag’s movements. Tracking is managed by Samsung’s Galaxy Find network, instead of Google’s Find Hub, which was launched after the SmartTag 2. This change allows Samsung to offer a more comprehensive and unified tracking experience.
When the tracker is within 200 feet, ultra-wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding combine on supported phones for more accurate detection. This technology allows users to locate their items with greater accuracy and speed, reducing the stress of losing valuables.
The SmartTag 3 will be available in black and white, initially launching in South Korea on October 7. Samsung has said that “additional markets” will follow in 2027, although a U.S. launch or price have yet to be confirmed. The SmartTag 2 was priced at $29.99, similar to Apple’s latest AirTag and Google’s new Pixel Tag. The SmartTag 3’s price is expected to be competitive, keeping the product affordable for consumers.
