Last week, the new Linux Mint Debian Edition 4 (LMDE 4) distribution was released. As the name suggests, this distribution is based on Debian. However, the next distribution to be released in a few months is called Linux Mint 20 “Ulyana” and will be based on the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04.
Surprisingly, Linux Mint decided to reveal on its blog that it is now stopping development and creating distributions with 32-bit. This means that when Linux Mint 20 is released it will only be available in 64-bit and will have three editions: Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce.
In case you haven’t noticed, the name “Ulyana” follows the Linux Mint tradition of having a female name and starting with the next letter of the alphabet. So, the previous Linux Mint 19.3 was named “Tricia,” which is why the new distribution is called “Ulyana.”

Discussing the new changes, Linux Mint mentioned that there are new colors in the default Mint-Y theme, namely Pink and Aqua.
In addition, the performance of the Nemo has also been significantly improved, resulting in faster file transfer speeds. Another feature of the new version is the integration of Warpinator and the introduction of file encryption.
Finally, we should mention that support for LDME 3 will end in early July 2020. From then on, Linux Mint will stop providing security and bug fixes for LMDE 3. Therefore, if you are using Linux Mint Debian Edition 3, it would be a good idea to have updated your system to a newer version.
