Have you ever searched for a page and been unable to access it because your browser gives you an error? Fortunately, there is now a solution. Brave Browser, in partnership with the Wayback Machine, can help you find “dead” websites. Whenever your web search returns a 404 error or other error codes, the Brave browser will automatically detect it and search the Wayback Machine for an alternative.
For those who don't know, the Internet Archive stores snapshots of billions of web pages. Over the years, some websites stop working, causing problems for those who need to access them to find information. With version 1.4 of the Brave Browser, you will be able to search through the Wayback Machine if the home page can't load.
Brave can now detect 14 HTTP error codes in addition to the most common 404 (page not found). Other error codes include: 408, 410, 451, 500, 502, 503, 504, 509, 520, 521, 523, 524, 525, and 526.
Currently, Brave is the only browser that offers the Wayback Machine natively. However, you can connect various Wayback Machine features, such as 404 crawling and URL playback archiving, through extensions in any browser like Chrome, Firefox , or Safari.
However, the Wayback Machine and Brave Browser have collaborated before. Back in 2017, the Internet Archive announced that it would accept the browser's BAT micropayments just a few months after they launched.
The Wayback Machine integration in Brave Browser is currently only available on the desktop. This feature has not yet been released for the mobile version of Brave Browser.
