Windows 10 1903: Microsoft fixes the bugs it created itself!

Following Microsoft's failed attempt to fix a Cortana-related bug affecting Windows 10 version 1903, the company has now published a help article telling users how to fix the problem it created.

This week, Microsoft released some fixes in its Patch Tuesday update that were intended to address CPU- hungry issues , but they also ended up breaking Windows Search and Start menu search. As Microsoft explained on Tuesday, the latest update was intended to address high CPU usage by the SearchUi.exe process in Cortana that “occurs only on devices that have disabled web search using Windows Desktop Search.”

Windows 10

Microsoft has acknowledged the new search issues in Windows 10 1903 and on Wednesday published a support article titled "Troubleshooting Windows Search," which applies to all versions of Windows 10.

While it's not clear that the article is directly related to the new search issues 1903 users are experiencing, it was published by Microsoft on the day it acknowledged the problems in 1903 and suggests several ways to fix Windows Search.

As expected, the page recommends that users follow the usual technical support process, check for Windows updates, run Search and Indexing, and reboot the device. It also includes some IT advice on using a PowerShell script to reset Windows Search. Finally, the article asks users to report issues to the Feedback Hub if the suggestions don't work.

Beyond the search issues, some Windows 1903 users are experiencing audio issues after installing KB4515384, as reported in Windows Latest.

For example, in installed games, such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), the bass is lost and the sound is reduced. The issue seems to affect installed games and applications.

Microsoft also said it has fixed a strange bug that caused the built-in Snip & Sketch snipping tool to turn a strange orange color. “This issue was caused by Lenovo Vantage’s Eye Care feature ,” both companies said in statements, and simply recommended disabling Eye Care.
