Ever since the Windows 10 October 2018 update, things have been going pretty rough for Windows users. First, there was the issue with file deletion that caused a lot of problems for users, and later there were driver issues as well.
Now, users have come across another bug in Windows 1809 that appears to be related to File Explorer. Several users on Reddit and Ask Woody have reported unusual activity while exporting files.
The main issue revolves around the reminder that should normally appear during the process of extracting a zip file in Windows 10. However, this does not happen, resulting in data loss.
One Reddit user explained: “The problem is that in 1809, replacing files with others by extracting them from a folder using File Explorer does not display the expected reminder and also does not actually replace any files. The process simply does not take place, without informing the user.”
Users on Ask Woody also reported the same error in File Explorer.
One user reported that if someone tries to delete a folder thinking its files have been copied, it will lead to data loss.
Users are not having any issues with third-party applications like WinZip, WinRAR, or 7-Zip. So, if you are facing the above issue, you can try other versions for now.
Microsoft is quick to release bug fixes in the form of cumulative updates, so we can expect this bug to be fixed soon. As for users who reverted to the previous version of Windows 10, the company will soon release a new October Update in a few weeks.
