One of the biggest drawbacks of the Galaxy Note 9 for some buyers is the lack of an option that makes it possible to disable the dedicated Bixby button.
For those who use Bixby this is a great feature because it helps launch the digital assistant faster, while for others it is a frustrating method especially because it is extremely easy to press the button by mistake.
Samsung doesn't offer any option to disable the Bixby button, but if a tweet posted by Samsung Germany is true, there's a chance the company will revisit this approach soon.
"We're working on it. Disabling the Bixby button on the lock screen should be ready by the end of September," the tweet says.
It's strange because the information it mentions raises questions about how the Bixby button disable feature will be implemented.
The tweet mentions the lock screen as the place where Bixby will be disabled, but the button doesn’t work there anyway. If you press the Bixby button while on the lock screen, the Galaxy Note 9 will ask you to unlock the phone, unless no unlock system is used, in which case the assistant will launch immediately.
At the same time, there is a possibility that Samsung will let users disable the Bixby button only in certain “areas,” leaving it enabled in others.
SamMobile speculates that the reason for forcing the Bixby button on users during the first few months of the Galaxy Note 9's availability is to make customers aware of its existence, especially since the device comes with the second-generation voice recognition system. It remains to be seen when and if these new options will be released.
