In addition to the Galaxy Note 9, which is expected to be launched in early August, Samsung is putting the final touches on its next-generation smartwatch, which is expected to be released soon.
Often referred to as the Gear S4, the new smartwatch may eventually launch as the Galaxy Watch, according to a recent finding. The device has appeared in official documents from South Korean regulators, confirming that the Galaxy Watch name does indeed exist and could be used for the next-generation smartwatch.
While Samsung hasn't revealed anything to us about this project, rebranding the device as a Galaxy Watch makes sense and aligns with the company's efforts to differentiate Galaxy as a standalone premium.
At the same time, it could help Samsung position the smartwatch as a rival to the Apple Watch with a name that makes more sense from a marketing perspective.
The new name, however, won't be the only big change coming to Samsung's next-generation smartwatch. Rumors have it that the South Korean company could replace Tizen with Wear OS, though that doesn't seem like a plan that's coming anytime soon.
Samsung giving up on built-in Tizen is something the company doesn't seem prepared for yet, and while the switch to Wear OS could indeed happen at some point in the future, the company may choose to make it a different device rather than a flagship model.
At the same time, it is believed that the Samsung Galaxy Watch could come with a larger battery and an improved design with smaller bezels. This means that a larger screen is feasible.
New features could also be included, including a blood pressure sensor that would provide more advanced services to customers. No details are available on when the launch could happen, but the IFA 2018 event in September seems like the right time.
