OnePlus has begun rolling out the OxygenOS 5.0.3 update for its OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T Android smartphones, introducing a number of improvements and long-awaited features.
Based on Android 8.0 Oreo, the OxygenOS 5.0.3 software update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones brings all the latest security updates released last month, as part of the May Android Security Patch.
The update also implements the Face Unlock feature that allows owners of these devices to unlock them with their face.
The Face Unlock feature is similar to Apple's facial recognition feature implemented on the iPhone X smartphone, except that it's software-based, meaning it can easily be implemented on previous models as well. There have been many OnePlus 3 and 3T users who have been asking for Face Unlock, which was first introduced with the OnePlus 5T, and now they can finally enjoy it on their devices, as the company promised.
Also in the OxygenOS 5.0.3 software update, the Launcher received a refreshed design (Shelf UI) along with redesigned app shortcuts and support for additional options when you long-press on an icon. The “Gallery” application has also been improved, with the addition of a new collection (“Recently Deleted”), which as its name suggests contains recently deleted files. In addition, support for sharing photos on Shot-On-OnePlus has been added, as well as the ability to view photos on a map, in Places, by location.
The Weather app also gets a new Launcher widget, better location accuracy, and optimizations to display updated weather information faster. Finally, OxygenOS 5.0.3 updates the File Manager with a new “Large Files” category. The update is rolling out now to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users worldwide, but it will take a few days to reach everyone.
