Apple has just released a new series of ads aimed specifically at smartphone users who are considering switching to the iPhone.
As it has done several times in the past, Apple is trying to show the ugly face of Android, shining a light on the iPhone and praising some of the features that are quite successful, like the easy photo editing system to adjust colors.
Apple touts how easy it is to switch from Android to iPhone, while also emphasizing that its platform is more secure and that customers receive better support.
Apple has a very good reason for going after Android users so aggressively. Google's mobile operating system is currently the number one worldwide, and from the looks of things, the sky's the limit, with iOS barely growing in global markets despite the arrival of new models like the iPhone X.
Data provided by Kantar, for example, shows that in the three-month period ending December 2017, Android was the top choice for new mobile devices. The US mobile market is dominated by Android with 55.3%, followed by iOS with 43.9%.
Things are even worse for iOS in larger European markets like Spain, where Android is the number one mobile operating system with at least 87.1% sales share, while iOS is far behind with 12.7%. In the UK, Android accounted for 55.3% of new phones sold in the three months ending in December, while iOS had 44.2%.
It remains to be seen how successful this new campaign will be, especially in conjunction with a refreshed iPhone lineup expected to be released in fall 2018.
