As we reported this morning, Cyanogen has decided to cease all operations and services by the end of the year. Although the company promised that anyone would be able to download old builds of its operating system, the CyanogenMod website has gone offline.
The good news, however, is that part of the CyanogenMod team will continue development of the operating system under a different name: It seems that LineageOS will continue the tradition.
According to a post on Reddit, LineageOS was forked from the open source CyanogenMod.
The team promised to launch a new website, as well as provide more information about the project tomorrow, Tuesday, December 27, 2016. So although it seems that CyanogenMod has lost the DNS on its domain, we hope that all content will be accessible through the LineageOS page, a new site that will officially launch tomorrow.
The LineageOS project plans to maintain the tradition of CyanogenMod by continuing the free development of a new CyanogenMod, an open-source project for custom Android operating systems.
However, LineageOS members point out: “this will take some time to have healthy growth. Community organization and development structure are key. We will also need financial and development support.”
