End credits for Cyanogen

Cyanogen will reportedly be shutting down all its operations and services soon. According to an announcement from the company, everything will stop on December 31, 2016.

The company that gave us the CyanogenMod ROM is unlikely to continue operating as we knew it in 2017, but it doesn't rule out a name change and the adoption of a different business model.

The CyanogenMod.org website has already been suspended, although the company explicitly stated that everyone will be able to continue downloading the nightly builds that were released in the past.Cyanogen

“As part of Cyanogen’s ongoing cleanup, all services and Cyanogen nightly builds will be shut down no later than 12/31/16. The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to develop CyanogenMod on their own,” the official announcement states.

Cyanogen has been through a lot of tough times over the past two months, as the company's two founders, Kirt McMaster and Steve Kondik, agree only on the fact that they disagree on the company's long-term strategy.

Since Kirt McMaster took on the role of new Executive Chairman in October, things have gotten worse, and finally the company's dissolution was announced this month.

Let's hope that Cyanogen will survive one way or another, as Android fans greatly appreciate CyanogenMod's custom ROMs.
