Smartphone technology gets better every year, but every once in a while we get some truly groundbreaking advancements in some area. Like Bluetooth , for example, which just got upgraded to version 5.0 .
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has just announced the availability of the fifth version of its technology. Although Bluetooth 5.0 is available today, the first devices featuring the technology won't be released until mid-2017.
According to the SIG, the new Bluetooth 5.0 technology has significant improvements over previous versions, such as greater range, higher speed, and greater broadcast message capacity. Also, enhanced interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies has been greatly improved.
"Bluetooth is revolutionizing how people experience IoT. Bluetooth 5.0 continues to lead this revolution, delivering reliable IoT connections," explains Mark Powell, Director at Bluetooth SIG.
Bluetooth 5.0 updates include twice the speed and eight times faster message transmission than the previous version of the technology.
Additionally, Bluetooth 5.0 comes with many improvements that will help reduce potential interference with other wireless technologies, which will provide Bluetooth devices with more stable connections.
Even though Bluetooth 5.0 has received many upgrades, the technology retains its low functionality and flexibility for developers.
Despite the fact that the new technology is mostly aimed at the Internet of Things (IoT), we wonder how long it will take for phone manufacturers to adopt this new technology.
