Now that we all know that HMD Global is planning to announce at least one Nokia-branded smartphone in Q1 2017, let's take a look at some of the decisions the Finnish company has made in order to bring the Nokia to the smartphone industry.
As many of you may already know, the next N0kia-branded smartphone that will be launched by HMD Global next year will run the Android operating system, but this time it will benefit from Google's services and applications.
The last Android launched by Nokia, the X, debuted in 2014, and had access to the Play store, Google Maps , and Gmail apps. Well, that's about to change now that HMD Global has confirmed that the new smartphone will run Google's Android OS.
During our interview with Forbes, the CEO of HMD Global Arto Nummela said that Google is as excited as anyone to welcome Nokia back into smartphone manufacturing, and even more so since the phone comes with an Android operating system.
«Yes, we work with Google and they are extremely eager to see Nokia with Android» said Arto Nummela. He went on to add that the new smartphone will be launched in the first half of 2017.
If you are wondering exactly what launch means, Nummela was quite specific, saying that «launch means that we will launch the device to the public».
Numella confirmed that HMD Global will be present at Mobile World Congress 2017, at the end of February.
Despite the fact that Nummela confirmed that HMD will launch an Android smartphone in the first half of 2017, we expect at least one-two more N0kia-branded phones by the end of next year.
